LED pharmacy cross using an Arduino board

Hello!

I need some help from you.

I have to make a LED Pharmacy cross using an Arduino board and I thought of using a 16x16 P16 (16mm Pitch) Full-color LED matrix (I found many of them).

Below is the link to the matrix

But the problem is that they can’t (At least I think) be controlled by Arduino.

So, could you suggest me a LED matrix with the same characteristics that can be easily driven by a Arduino board . I’m open to all your suggestions. Thank you!

Thanks for your help.

I had also seen that kind of matrix. But the problem is that I need 5 matrix to make the pharmacy cross and I do not see how to connect them with Arduino...given the type of data cable used.

Can you give some more details around what the requirements are for a pharmacy cross. i.e.

  • what shape is it exactly?
  • how big does it need to be?
  • what colour does it need to be?
  • does it need to change colour or shape?

If it doesn't change shape, you may be able to make it out of LED strip which will be much cheaper than a matrix and can still change colour if you need that. If it doesn't change colour or shape you could use single colour LED strip and then you don't need an Arduino at all, just a power supply.

This?

Yes Wawa I want to make something like that!

Try Adafruit.
Lots of options and tutorials.

Ok I see.

But they use a 2x8 IDC ribbon cable.

I saw also that we have to use the RGB LED Matrix Shield.

For a cross like that one (photo) We use like 5 LED matrix, in 3 lines so we need 3 IDC ribbon cable.

My question is how do I connect them to Arduino or to this shield?

I think it may be cheaper if you build your own cross using WS2812B RGB LED strip.

Cut the strip into several strips.

They come 60 LEDs per meter.

+1 - you can then make it whatever size you like and control it with one output. I think you need 3 bytes per LED, so depending on the size of your cross and density of your LEDs you might need a larger Arduino with more memory to store the patterns that you want to display.

Thank you for the answers! I will do some researches on it.

You asked an interesting question, would you like to add a little clarification regarding the safety of using this option?

Would you like to go back fifteen months and ask him?
