Left hand thread M2 rod

To be used as an adjustment rod in a project, I’ve been looking for left hand (reverse) thread M2 rod.

Anyone seen a source for these ?

I doubt it. The smallest LH rod or die I can find is M5.

Thanks.

Ya, that’s what I was finding.

Yes, threaded rods with left-hand threads are also available on the German market from m5 and upwards.

You either have to cut the thread yourself or have it 3D printed.

Good luck.

Your post is third in Google Search. Which does not bode well.

M3 LH is the smallest I could find.

Yes, M3 will have to be an alternative.

If You have a lathe, or friend has, he can likely make one for You. You can search the Tube for Joe Pie! He shows how to make small things most of the time nowdays.
I've only made an M6 0.5 2" long, lefthanded, so far.

Found this: Vänstergänga M2 - Sök (bing.com)

If you can't find anything else, I would suggest an M2 left hand die. While in theory an M2 thread could be lathe cut, one would have to be a master machinist to do this.

That is why traveling steady rests were made.

Or Swiss Machines.

That would work for shorter rods. The REAL problem with any rod threading with a die is to be able to maintain the orientation of the die. As soon as it is no longer 90 degrees to the rod, the thread is destroyed.

Swiss machines can do long parts by feeding the rod through another bushing on the opposite end. They could even have a CNC controlled steady rest.

The industrial-scale process for long rods is thread rolling, where the opposing rollers act as rests for each other, you can use large diameter tools to spread the wear and heat, and you can do long rods (or shorter bolts) very quickly.

Ebay currently has a RH-M2x0.4 head for sub-$200:

This is as close as I think I’m going to get.

For my application, this might work.

You might want to look at what trapazoidal threads look like. They will NOT mate to standard metric threads!
