Leonardo and USB 1

Hi,

I've a Leonardo board, works fine under windows 7 and desktop pc (usb 2). However, on an old acer travelmate c100, running xp tablet pc edition with usb 1 usb ports, the Serial Monitor does not seem to communicate with the board. I can download sketches from the tablet pc, and they run on both machines, and the same by downloading from desktop pc. Is there a problem with the serial monitor and usb1 ports? I get a number of java error messages when I try and send from the monitor. I've been looking for an alternative, free, lightweight, serial port terminal/monitor, but not had much success.

Best wishes,

Ray

go to this forum main page - http://arduino.cc/forum/ look under the 'displays Installation & Troubleshooting' topic - you'll find the answer there :cold_sweat:

Edit: I didn't figure this out all by myself, I was inspired by this: http://arduino.cc/forum/index.php/topic,115694.msg871336.html#msg871336

I’m having the same issue with an older Windows XP laptop, using the Leonardo.

floresta’s link doesn’t seem to be relevant(perhaps it’s linking to a different topic now, due to forum section adjustments?). And I can’t find the suggested topic in the Troubleshooting section.

I can load sketches. But the Serial Monitor shows nothing. However when I attach it to a newer Windows 7 desktop, the Serial Monitor displays as expected(with the basic Digital Read example code).

Any additional information, or updated link to a relevant topic would be appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT:
Solved the problem by updating XP SP2 to Service Pack 3!

No, the link is still correct, you just missed the point. Compare the question and the first reply here to those at the link http://arduino.cc/forum/index.php/topic,115694.msg871336.html#msg871336.

I see this question, being about connecting an Arduino Leonardo through an older Windows XP USB.

And I see your link to a topic about connecting a small lcd screen to an Arduino. About finding its controller type, and the needed libraries.
