Since the 3 SPI pins are on the ICSP header, do I gain 3 I/O pins(11,12,13)?
-
can I use Digital pins 0 and 1 and still upload sketches via USB?
No and no. The ICSP header pins are hardwired to 11..13, and if Rx,Tx are connected
to a USB port, then other ckts tied on the lines will conflict. People tie Rx,Tx to
XBee shields all the time, and try to use them to do both debugging and XBee
comms at the same time, and it doesn't work.
Based on the schematic provided by arduino, the SPI pins are clearly not wired to 11-13. http://arduino.cc/en/uploads/Main/arduino-leonardo-schematic_3b.pdf
The RX and TX look to be independnet.

Pin 1 on ICSP Header goes to MISO, which clearly is pin 11.
Sorry, Leonardo has special wiring. One day I'll remember to remember this.
