leonardo

hi

i would like to ask if arduino leonardo has a ptc and overcurrent protection

if any one knows pls tell me where it is on the board and its specifications(or its name and type)

and last is it possible that on that specific board could anything go bad and short out

Leonardo schematic diagram is available online.
F1 (near the USB socket) is a 500mA polyfuse (very slow reacting, and auto resetting).
The fairly large square part with 50... printed on it, near the reset button.

Don't assume it will protect your PC.
Keep the metal-dust away...

the 501k?

what do u mean slow???

and yes of course no metal dust and insulated (non conductive) bench but i mean in the circuitry it self is there a possibilty it malfunctions and draws high amps

as i will be using it as joy stick (i mean it will be connected to pc all time not just programming ) is there any sort of thing to prevent the over amps

somebody before suggested using powered hub (and i cant put my hands on any ) so does a data hub work like would it burn in a shortcirc scenario instead of pc

Photos to compare genuine Arduino.

The green thing on the left, it is not a 501k. It is a polyswitch.

It is a self-resetting thermal fuse. It takes time to heat up and "trip", depending on the severity of overload, and much longer to reset when power is completely removed.

Virtually no possibility of the circuit itself doing that. :grinning:

Hardly an application presenting any risk of overload.

No, whatever that is! :astonished:

And yes, a polyswitch is a sort of PTC.
