Libelium GPRS module problems

Does anyone have this unit working (even just through the serial gateway)?

I purchased this unit through libelium and so far have been unable to get even an AT->OK message. I've followed the instructions to the letter in their wiki, and I am currently using a 2.2A power supply so that shouldn't be an issue.

I have a feeling the unit might be defective, but after some basic troubleshooting libelium has stopped responding to emails altogether. With that said, if anyone has experience dealing with libelium I wouldn't mind some pointers.

hi,

I also had trouble, using http over GPRS in particular. Other features like send receive SMS seem ok though.

Here's a thread tracking this issue:
http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1228323687/2

and an earlier thread:

I also have heard nothing from the dev despite contacting the a few times

cheers,
Tobie

Personally I've given up on this defective unit and will be unlikely to make any purchases from Libelium ever again due to their lack of support.

I am currently working with a similar module from hwkitchen.com. Support is much better from them and the telit module they use appears to be more fully documented.

Hello Chinkypyro !!

I had a problem as you with Libelium's GPRS module, but don't give up this fast. I also thought the module was broken, but actually I was doing things in the wrong way. Smiley

You can read some posts as Tobie says, and you can visit the wiki (updated) http://www.libelium.com/squidbee/index.php?title=New_GPRS_module_for_Arduino_(Hilo_-_Sagem) . Are you sure you followed all the steps?

It's really strange what you say, I have no complaint of Libelium's support, they helped me in other proyects. Anyway, there is a warranty service (I used once). You can send it back and they will take a look to your module (you have to pay the delivery, but is the same thing that happens in the other Arduino shops).

After that, if you haven't solved your problem yet, please try to explain better your problem in this post, and me and all the people in the forum will be glad to help you.

Cheers !!

I can confirm that everything in the wiki was followed to the letter.
Their support team initially did suggest things to try based on information that was on the wiki. However, once it became apparent that the unit was defective they stopped responding to emails.

I would have no problem paying the shipping to get the unit shipped back to libellium had it been working at one point. However, it was dead on arrival. Why should I have to incur additional costs to cover for their lack of quality control?

I don't know man, It is supposed the manufacturer does not know if the device was broken or wrongly manipulated. This kind of gadgets are not an I-Pod which can not be opened. I own a computer shop and it is the way the warranty service works in all the world. (market rules are not really fear).

Regards

There are many places that will either ship out a replacement first, or cross ship units, especially if they are dead on arrival. There's a fundamental difference between a unit that needs warranty service vs. a unit that hasn't worked in the first place. I would think someone that owns a computer shop would understand that.

The shipping costs to Spain from where I am for a properly packaged unit would be around $30. Considering Libellium's track record for not responding to my inquiries thus far, it's probably better just to discard the module than to lose an additional $30 should I ship the unit out and not hear back.
