Hi
A question about Newhaven Display M0216MD-162MDBR2 VFD display:
Could someone (please) point me to a library that would work with Arduino Uno r3 in 4-bit mode (preferred) or synchronous serial mode ? (..or do I need to try to make such a thing myself ?)
Googling didn´t give satisfactory results.
The Arduino LiquidCrystal library understandably doesn´t support a feature that this VFD display has: ability to adjust the brightness of the display. That is the reason I´m looking for a library made specifically for a VFD display.
(It seems to me that some VFD modules made by Futaba have same kind of commands as my VFD module, but I havent been able to find such a library yet that wouldn´t use SPI.)
Mmm, no mention of brightness in original post, you just asked for a library
The brightness is set with the "Function Set" command which also sets up other things, you just need to set the least significant 2 bits. To do this you can use the stock LiquidCrystal library and then send commands from your sketch.
This should work (untested) if you put it in you loop() or in setup() after lcd.begin():
byte brightness = 1; // Brightness value in range from 0 to 3
lcd.command(LCD_FUNCTIONSET | LCD_4BITMODE | LCD_2LINE | LCD_5x8DOTS | brightness);
delay(5); // Wait for the command to be executed.
