LilyPad Arduino generates error but works if Genuino/Uno board is selected

I ran into this and thought it was worth posting. I have a LilyPad Arduino (with ATMega328 chip) that I was running into the dreaded avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 1 of 10: not in sync: resp=0xfc

problem. I tried virtually all of the remedies online. Finally, I tried the "Genuino Uno" board in the Arduino IDE and I was able to upload a sketch.

I'm posting this so if others run into this they can give it a try - anyone have any ideas as to why this works?

Sounds like someone burned an UNO bootloader onto the Lilypad. You can continue to use it as an UNO or burn the Lilypad bootloader onto it.
