I'm well familiar with the IDE under Windows and today successfully installed the IDE Linux 32 version on a laptop running Lubuntu BUT is it correct to assume that this is just a stripped down IDE and as such is the reason there is no File / Preference option. Specifically I want to enable programming with ESP8266 etc.
Comments / Guidance appreciated
I've not had a problem.
Which installation route did you take?
What version of the IDE?
Which distro?
Thanks for prompt response, requested info as follows:
Fresh download off Arduino.cc of 32 bit version which when installed shows under Help/About 2:1.0.5+dfsg2-4.1
lubuntu installed and SysInfo shows release is Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic)
Install Arduino IDE on Linux using sudo apt-get install aduino
When I open the IDE I can go File / Preferences BUT this does not show all the detail like it does under a Windows installation like 'Additional Boards Manager URLs' although it does have a note that 'preferences can be edited directly' in a file preference.txt
Appreciate your further comments
