Linux upload without Arduino-IDE

Hi

this is my first Question and i hope someone can help me:

I have a new arduino diecimila. with a winXP machine and the arduino-0009 ide i can upload all sketches i want. But if i would upload out of the commandline from a linuxmachine i have to press the reset-button! Why?

one of the new features is the automatic-software-upload, isn´t it?

I use the avr-g++, avr-glibs, avrdude.

So i hope someone can help me!

Not sure. I believe the board should be reset whenever you open a connection to it, allowing you to upload without pressing the reset button. What happens when you try it? Have you tried the version of avrdude that comes with Arduino?
