Liquid Crystal without pot

Hi all, I want to know if i can use liquid crystal without pot. Thanks

Sure, put in a couple of fixed resisters instead.

Many LCDs work acceptably with pin 3 connected to GND. Otherwise you want to start by selecting resistors to give about 0.3 volts at pin 3.

As an alternative to the potentiometer you can connect the Vo pin of the LCD with any available PWM-output (e.g. pin 9) and add the following code in the setup() section:

pinMode(9, OUTPUT); analogWrite(9, CONTRAST);

replace CONTRAST with the value of your choice. Values around 10-20 give a nice bright output.

My experience with the pwm on contrast pin is not very good. The display flickers. I'd go with a pot, why not? It's 25 cents only and you can get a very small one and tune the display to very good contrast.
