I bought one of the popular LM2596 .
There are some unpopulated pads on the module. I was able to find a photo online that showed a 0-ohm
resistor mounted on the pair of pads in the upper right corner. (attached is that photo plus a photo of my
module with the pads unpopulated. I was able to find lot’s of schematics online but none that referenced
unpopulated pads or user-populated pads. I did find one photo that showed a small cap mounted on the
pair of pads in the lower left corner. I am trying to ascertain if the pads in the upper right corner are intended to be for a CURRENT SENSE resistor and if so is it supposed to be one for use with an instrumentation amplifier such as the INAXXX series or is it used by the LM2596 module itself for some
kind of current sense ?
If anyone knows what to do with those pads I would appreciate it .
FYI: The two pads in the upper right corner have continuity to the output pins but not to each other so if
you really didn’t know what they were for you could put a filter cap there and use them for that. Maybe that
is what they are for.
