LM3405A alternative ?

Does anyone know an alternative for the LM3405A LED driver ?
Since my soldering skills are not quite there yet, I'm looking for a DIP replacement.

LM3405A 1A Constant Current Buck LED Driver

  • VIN operating range of 3V to 22V
  • Drives up to 5 High-Brightness LEDs in series at 1A
  • EN/DIM input for enabling and PWM dimming of LEDs

Thanks.

One generally does not need a replacement for a specific chip, but a few of those chip's features only. So you are looking for a switched constant current source of how many amps and for how many volts?

@deSilva: The features of LM3405A are quite large when compared with the small list I've copy/pasted.. so it's there on the text: 22V, 1A and PWM.

@Richard: I was aware of those adapters, the problem is that it still requires SOT soldering on the adapter. I wish I as able to do this.

Do you recommend doing a one by one pin soldering using a small pointy tip.. or doing like the video using a flat/diagonal cut tip ?
I would say I have a decent 40W soldering iron with temp control and a pointy tip.

I usually use soldering paste, it seems liquid is more manageable for this operation.

Maybe it was something lost in translation but what's a "solder-wick" ?

Answering to myself:

To remove solder between pins, you can use solder wick. Solder wick is composed of small copper strands braided together with some chemical additives that have been formulated and manufactured in such a way to attract the solder. Basically, you're playing with surface tension.

Yes that is the way I would recommend you do it. Then you don't need a liquid flux and a flux cleaner after.
