LM3915 VU Meter

Hi everyone,

im making a simple VU meter following the diagram on the second page of the LM3915 datasheet:
http://www.national.com/ds/LM/LM3915.pdf

it "kind of" works. However, most LED's are dimmly lit, one is full brightness all the time, and others aren't lit at all...
I dont really understand some acronyms on the datasheet so i cant realy find my problem. (Rhi Rlo Radj)

my circuit is:

iPhone 3.5mm Jack -> LM386 Amp (50gain) (working correctly) -> Signal to LM3915 pin 5 [from the LM386 output] -> 10 LED's

The LED's are lighting up according to the beat, lowering the volume and maxing it out changes the LED's feedback so it seems to be ok. However they just aren't lighting up evenly.
my Supply is 12V (220v to 12v transformer -> 4 diodes (DC) -> 420uF Cap).

Im supplying the V+ on the LM3915 with 12V and the LED's with 12V too.
Im using a 1.2k resistor like in the diagram and a 10k pot instead of the 8k resistor.

Anyone has a clue on this?

What are you feeding to pin 9?

Well, i just got it working. Not sure what it was, i just unplugged everything around the LM3915 and followed the diagram again.
Sometimes its better to start over :roll_eyes:

Im plugging pin 9 to pin 3 to get Bar Mode.
