The short of it - I'm making a widget and I want a scale integrated into it. Something that can do .01 grams up to a few pounds.
I'm struck with paralysis analysis from looking at a million different sensors measuring N to Kgs - anyone familiar enough to recommend some sensors to look at? I think the flat pad types are the form factor needed for my idea. I want to buy a couple to whip together different prototypes.
Before anyone asks, no it's not for drugs lol. Those are bad, mmkay.
0.01 grams is a pretty fine resolution, indeed not really hobby level any more. You really have to worry about keeping the scales stable and level and so.
Anyway I don't exactly care much about what you use it for in the end, that's your responsibility. I also do hope that your local drug store is weighing its drugs on a proper analytic scale, not a DIY one. There's plenty of other uses than drugs (legal or not) for scales of even higher precision - like the 0.1 mg resolution analytic scales I used to work with in the lab.
Thanks for the feedback. I think I need to up my threshold to .1G. I'm not looking to make a hobby widget. If I can put together a prototype of my idea the goal is to take it to China for mass production.
Funny that you say that. Due to the business that I'm in, the mass production part is the part I'm less worried about. Getting this initial prototype on the other hand, is proving to be a pita.
Mass production is only a small part (and the easy part) of turning a prototype into a commercial product. Packaging, marketing, proper user interface, manuals, setting up support, shipping, warranty service - just to name a few aspects.
