Local WiFi for Yun robot?

I have a robot controlled by a Yun and WiFi console that works OK in my office near the WiFi router.

But I want to take in on the road talking direct to the WiFi on my laptop. Do I need a portable router like this (http://amzn.com/B00P4X0XKK) or can I easily get the Yun to talk directly to the laptop (Win 8.1)?

I also would like to improve the Yun WiFi range. It seems putting an external antenna on it is hard. I expect I will mount a WiFi range extender on the robot. I am comfortable with basic Arduinos but am a newby concerning the Yun, networking, and Linux.

Hi,

The YUN is actually a portable WiFi router. Just reset the YUN WiFi to factory default by pressing the WiFi Reset button. change the WiFi password to something else. Then connect your laptop's WiFi to the YUN, done.
