Locked serial port

Every so often the serial port where the arduino is attached stops working. Arduino IDE complains port is in use and cannot be opened.

Solutions:

  • Use a AVR ISP programmer
  • Restart Computer
  • Change COM port number in device manager

Any way to stop this annoyance? Hyper terminal can access the port fine, so its an IDE issue

Are you using the IDE 1.6.8.. Well it has crazy issues, I suggest going back to 1.6.5...
