Long Distance Laser Measure for Arduino

Hey guys,

I am into rocketry and am building a multi-propellant rocket. I need an ULTRA-ULTRA-ULTRA long-range distance sensor (around 5-10 miles). As far as I know, this does not exist and the rest of the internet doesn't seem to help. Do you guys know of any laser distance measures that have a considerable range?

What about RADAR? What are you using to aim at the rocket? At those distances the link budget is almost expired. You have to not only illuminate a target but detect the return pulse (if it's passive). Each way has huge losses.

Might be able to do it with a barometer sensor. It's a fools errand to even try LiDAR (or RaDAR) at that range on a hobby grade budget.

I'm thinking of GPS.

Accurate to a few meters, should be enough on a 5-10 mile range.

As extra bonus you don't just get a reading of the distance, but also where the thing currently actually is, and you can even keep track of where it has been!
