Looking for dial button or knob like in car entertainment systems

Hey guys,

I'm looking for something like a rotary button/knob as it is used in car entertainment systems, GPS devices and the like where you cannot reliably type or push many buttons. Turning the knob left and right typically scrolls up and down a list, and pushing the knob confirms the current selection. I think this input style is pretty cool.

I googled for hours but couldn't find anything suitable, probably partly because I don't know the proper term for such a component.

Can anybody help me out?

Thanks, Christoph

It will be referred to as an encoder and the ability to push the shaft will sometimes be an option.

Here is a place to start.

Here we go. Semitransparent acrylic fronplate with a hole drilled in it, ne of these Mayhew labs boards

A pushhbuton rotary encoder, and a sweet brushed metal know. Looks that blow BMW/Mercedes outta the water. Sparkfun has all these parts (but the plexi.)

Awesome! This is exactly what I had been looking for. Thanks!

Haha no problem. Merry Christmas/solstice!
