Looking for female PINS

I've have my first Ardunio Leonardo board with headers.

I'm looking for local suppler of headers. This is all I can find.

I think they're okay. Can someone confirm?

  • Updated link

Yes - they are male headers.

So what, do I just insert one end into my header on the board and solder the wire the other exposed end?

Or use wires with teminated ends.
Male-male, male-female, and female-female are all available.
Housing and wires are available from Pololu to help you keep organized.

Or buy wire & male or female terminals if you need specific lengths.

stackable headers. these have long pins below and female above so you can stack boards.
you typically buy in the number of pins you need. there is no easy and clean way to shorten them. you have to sacrifice a pin for each cut you make.

you can spend more on pins and connectors than you do on microprocesors and chips.
shop around, you should be able to find better deals.
if you buy an ESP8266, you often get all three, male, female short pins, and female extensions.
and the total is less then $3. you could buy an ESP8266 and toss it, use the headers and save money.

or you can get straight headers. the part of the pin below the board is just for soldering

Looking for female PINS

Pins are male, sockets are female.
I have never seen the anatomical reference explicitly stated, I guess everyone assumes it's obvious :o

Pololu lists them as "headers"

They came after master and slave, but no good political correct replacement terms.

I have been waiting for someone to come after male and female… with little hope for any good political correct replacement terms.

Until then the answer to why are they called male and female will begin with “well, um…”

Male female gets a bit sticky with connectors like SMA. I have a picture conveniently located of male and female SMA, plus some idiot decided we needed SMA reverse polarity. Got a kit of little gender bender SMA problem solving bits.

Are you sure?
I remember as a boy in the 1960s learning the terms 'male' and female' in this context, then the realisation of where they came from. I don't think the PC nonsense had really taken off then.

Male pins plug into a header, or into a female pin.
Female pins plug onto 0.025" square terminal strips, or have male pins plug into them.

I am sure that the use of "master" and "slave" is the subject of some controversy. I don't happen to like any alternates that have been suggested…

I would bet that if not already, someone is going to start in on "male" and "female" as we have used the terms since being boys in the 60s.

I totally agree with that! One of the companies regularly mentioned here is trying to get the alternatives accepted, I try to avoid their products for this reason.

Going to?

It is most certainly already under attack! (And has been for some time.)

A fairly recent update to my business software alters "Sex" to "Birth Sex" and adds fields for "Gender Identity" and "Pronouns"! :astonished:

I think the OP is looking for a header that extends below the board with pins that extend and identity themselves as male and there are sections above that allow a dupont pin to be inserted, this part of these devices identify themselves as female.

Long tail female headers were already presented as an option.
