I’ve read some bad reviews on the ones I’ve found. Would I be better off getting an LCD and a seprate keypad? This is to control the dim and timer on an LED light.

The entire LCD + keypad is controlled by an ATMEGA328 controller. Arduino talks to the controller with soft or hardware serial port. Key presses are read with Serial.read. LCD is updated with Serial.print
