Looking for parts recommendation

Hello all,

I'm fairly new to arduino programming but I wanted to make a simple cat toy as an introductory project.

What i need is a recommendation for a board and servo/motor that can swing a cat toy on a string around a base that can stand up to a cat wrestling with it with out destroying the motor.

 Thank you for your help,

What about the motor destroying the cat?

Which one

A 360 servo (modified MG996) might work.

The way I'm thinking designing it the motor/board will be hidden under a base.

I'm want to replicate this.

Above average sized house cat. That servo looks like it might work well. I just want a servo that won't gets its gears ground down from having it held in place.

At a greater, or lesser cost?

I'm doing this more for the experience than anything else so I don't mind if it's more; within reason of course.

A friction clutch would prevent the motor from abuse.

Awesome! any recommendations or links? I wasn't able to find one that wasn't for a vehicle and $200+

Make one! Drill a piece of plastic to be a good fit to the servo shaft and then attach the cat toy to the plastic.

A fixed magnet and a metal washer attached will work as a clutch, a clutch that can also be separated if need be.

That is so helpful! So i'm going to pick up an MG996R servo what board would you recommend?

Amazon and eBay have lots of offerings:

These will need to be modified so they operate as a continuous servo.

Maybe use an Arduino Nano. Buy here (arduino.cc)
