Looking for PCB software that can export to G-Code

I am looking for simple, free/cheap peace of software for building PCBs that is not Eagle. I need it to be able to export g-code for my CNC. Any ideas?

Are you asking for something other than EAGLE because you don’t like EAGLE, or because you’re under the impression that EAGLE can’t generate g-code? If the latter, see “gcode-1.zip” in the Cadsoft ULP download area.

Try to Google “Pcb-Gcode”, this is the piece of software that you are looking for.

I have Eagle, and I have the pcb g-code plugin, up and running. I just dont like eagle. Looking for something else.

Would you be okay with using another package and then doing the conversion stage with Eagle? If so, it’s possible to export to Gerber from one package, then import from Gerber to Eagle and export to G-Code from there. I have done so once successfully, with a simple circuit.

Sure. Can you link me to there web site?

I’ve used KiCad some others suggest pcb.

Actually, I thought there were a number of tools from the g-code side of the world for converting either gerber or HPGL to G-code, and most ‘serious’ PCB editors can export to gerber and/or HPGL. I think that means you’re back to asking for general PCB package recommendations. There is kicad and gEDA (gnu SCH and PCB) for free; I’m pretty convinced that “simple” is pretty hard to come by in this sort of app…

Do you know of any non-Eagle tools for calculating the “isolation milling” G-Code required from a Gerber?

This is a link to a page containing links to several free PCB layout programs:-

I thought I had seen some, but they’re not showing up when I look for them :frowning:
LPKF’s “CircuitCam” will output HPGL paths for isolation, with billions of options, but it’s commercial software and expensive… (It’s intended for use with their own CNC PCB routers, of course. But the HPGL output might make it generally useful…)

I use “ace.exe” to convert from dxf to g-code format. It works pretty well for my limited use converting A-cad drawings into g-code for use on my home built cnc machine. Pictures at www.glasson.org
