I have been unsuccessful in my search for a tiny LCD module that's about the size of a digital watch screen. I'm looking for one that just displays 4 or 5 digits on a single line, and works with the ATmega328. I've searched on digikey, sparkfun, ebay, and have found nothing! Anyone have any suggestions?
The 0.96" 128x64 OLED displays that have been popping up might do the trick. The Adafruit version is: http://www.adafruit.com/products/326. I bought this one from tindie.com (it uses the adafruit driver, but has a different i2c address): https://www.tindie.com/products/miker/096-oled-i2c-display-33v-50v/
Normal text has 3 sizes:
- Size 1 can hold 8 lines of 20 characters per line;
- Size 2 can hold 4 lines of 9 characters per line;
- Size 3 can hold 3 lines of 7 characters per line.
You can also put out a bitmap or do vector graphics if you want something different.
The dimensions are 26.7mm (1.05") from right to left, 26mm from top to bottom (1.02") and 5mm thick (0.2"). Note, you will need to put it in a mounting to secure the OLED (the screen is connected to the circuit by a flexible ribbon cable).
Due to the size of the screen, and the fact that it has to buffer everything in the microprocessor, you can only use this on machines like the Uno or bigger that have enough memory (i.e. ATtiny85's like the Trinket, Digispark are too small).
Note, I haven't used any of the following, but they are on my maybe buy some day list.
Or possibly this 0.36" 8 segment 4 digit display with i2c would be better, since it is just digits: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190898617153?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649. It is 30mm (1.18") x 14mm (0.55") x 10mm (0.39").
Or this scrolling LED name badge: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Programmable-Scrolling-LED-Name-Badge-Tag-White-Color/151102679096?_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D18776%26meid%3D3153709751061495419%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D8532%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D151101029228%26
Newhaven makes some 1x8 text LCDs: http://www.newhavendisplay.com/lcd-character-1-x-8-characters-c-2_76.html
Thanks for the reply!! You even answered my other question, whether it would work with an ATtiny. Looks like some of these displays could work with my application, I'll have to read up more on them later tonight and report back my findings.
