Looking for something comparable to CN3083

Along with my many other projects, I'm looking into building a solar/lipo low voltage power solution. So I searched "Solar LiPo charger" and have found a lot of products and schematics that use the CN3083 for the charging portion of the circuit. This is a surface mount component which is great and will be ideal for my final project but I would like to first experiment with the IC on a breadboard. Does anybody know if there is a through-hole variant of this IC?

The ideal outcome of this project would be a low-voltage, constant power source which would use the battery when there is no sunlight and would use solar power when it is available to recharge the battery and contribute to the constant power source. In the endgame the light to dark phase would be around 45 to 50 minutes or roughly half of a low-earth orbital period.

Yes I could use something off the shelf and already built but that's not going to happen

Just mount one on an adaptor board like this.

Riva,

That solution may well be what I end up having to use and it's not a bad one for prototyping. I could even install some headers when the prototype finds it's way onto a soldered test circuit so it can be moved between breadboards and proto-boards.

If I do find a through-hole equivalent to this IC I will make sure to link it here.

If they make a through hole type it will say so in the data sheet for the chip.

Lol that's true it should. Shame on me for not looking at that first. Just re-checked the datasheet provided by Seeed and looks like it only comes in a small outline package (SOP) which means I'll probably be getting some sort of a breakout to handle it and will definitely need a finer pointed tip for my Weller.

You'd be surprised what you can do with a bit of gel flux - YouTube drag soldering. You don't hit each pin individually, so you don't need a super sharp tip
