# Looking for speed sensors

Hi guys,

I'm new to all this so please bear with me.

I would need a sensor that would register an object passing through.

If you could tell me what exactly do i need to get started , it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers! XD

you can explain what you wanted to do.,

Here are link related to you. sensor available in sparkfun http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/Ping?from=Tutorial.UltrasoundSensor http://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-Bike-Speedometer/ http://makezine.com/2010/11/02/arduino-speed-detector/ http://playground.arduino.cc/Main/ReadingRPM

I would need a sensor that would register an object passing through.

What size of object? At what distance? Passing through what?

Well i would like measure the speed of the handball that my students hit. I was guessing they would hit a square on the wall and having sensors on the side to measure the speed.

I checked http://makezine.com/2010/11/02/arduino-speed-detector/ and i guess that could work?

I never attempted to do or create anything like that so far …

and i guess that could work?

Well detecting a car pass two points is a lot more simple than getting a ball in free flight to break two beams.

I think you might struggle with this.

If you want to do this once, make a video and measure the distance the ball moves between frames.

Well, what i would have is 2 poles...and the player would shoot the handball between 2 poles...and then i would get the speed on somekind of monitor or screen.

Maybe by adding few sensors on each pole would help?

That car example used two lasers. You would have to use a sensor / emitter for every diameter of the ball all the way up the pole.
