Looking For Very Simple IR TX/RX Code

Hi, I have the Elegoo IR transmitter and receiver modules and I'm looking for simple code to transmit single bytes of data between these without the need to worry about remote protocols etc. Can anybody point me to existing code ? The Elegoo examples don't work and I'm not sure which librarie(s) and version I need.

If you want data transmission to be reliable, with any wireless approach, the code will not be simple.
