Loop within a loop "For"

I’m not at all new to elecronics, but I’m brand new to Arduino UNO and programming. So I’m following a newby step by step on youtube by Paul McWhorder. His instruction on using “for” command is simple and to the point. very hard to mess up, BUT I getting an error even though mine looks exactly like his.

first let me show you the script, then I will explain the error:

int red=12;
int yellow=9;
int redon=250;
int redoff=250;
int yellowon=250;
int yellowoff=250;

void setup() {
// put your setup code here, to run once:
pinMode(red,OUTPUT);
pinMode(yellow,OUTPUT);
}

void loop() {
// put your main code here, to run repeatedly:
for(int j=1; j<=5; j=j+1)(
digitalWrite(red,HIGH);
delay(redon);
digitalWrite(red,LOW);
delay(redoff);
)
digitalWrite(yellow,HIGH);
delay(1000);
digitalWrite(yellow,LOW);
delay(yellowoff);

}

With out the “for” command, the program compiles and downloads without a glitch. but once I add the “for” command, I get this error:

Arduino: 1.8.0 (Windows 10), Board: “Arduino/Genuino Uno”

C:\Users\Kolor 2 Dye 4\Documents\Arduino\sketch_dec29d\sketch_dec29d.ino: In function ‘void loop()’:

sketch_dec29d:17: error: expected ‘)’ before ‘;’ token

digitalWrite(red,HIGH);

^

sketch_dec29d:21: error: expected primary-expression before ‘)’ token

)

^

exit status 1
expected ‘)’ before ‘;’ token

This report would have more information with
“Show verbose output during compilation”
option enabled in File → Preferences.

… Any Ideas? Any help would be great! thank you for your time!

for(int j=1; j<=5; j=j+1)(

Look carefully at the opening parenthesis after the j increment.
Wrong shape

(Also, see what I did with code tags there? You should’ve done that with your code)

You are bracketing your for loop with parentheses. Need to use bracket '{'
