Lost all my sketches

Mangled your HDD boot sector trying to make a bootable USB (but didn't pay attention to target /dev/sda0)? CAINE fixes it and gives you all your files back.

I don't know squat about Linux and every time I attempt to use a Linux application it results in failure.

I didn't mangle my HDD boot sector trying to create a bootable USB. I was trying to create a new partition on my HDD to help separate program files from created files. In the process, something glitched and, boom, I had nothing.

There are some good GREAT RECOVERY programs for windows that will allow you to reset the drive as it was partition wise etc.

HEADS UP in that you need to be at least semi competent in thier usage !

Linux is not my thing but I would assume there are similar packages available.
Setting partitions often requires a little more advanced knowledge than an average user will be able to grasp.
Here under windows I use the "HIREN CD" which has a lot of useful tools.

**WARNING **
Try not to use the new partitions as it can make the task much harder and may corrupt some files you wish to recover.

I would say I'm quite competent.
The problem is the files were already recovered. They reside, somewhere, on one of 5 computers I have running all the time.
I've tried looking for files with loop() but, for whatever reason, I only get loop and none are the recovered files.
I may still have the original HDD. I might have replaced it and put it aside, just in case, for later. I have a dozen or so saved hard drives so it will take a while to go through them all since they have to be loaded into caddys. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will be the one currently in the caddy. Now I just need to find the power supply for it.
