This may be a dumb question but I'm using the arduino motor shield and power it with a 7.4V battery. Would it be a problem if I connect a 6V DC motor to it ?
thanks

The motor will run a little fast and hot so you risk overheating if running it at 100% duty cycle.
The Arduino motor shield uses a darlington driver, so giving it 7.4V input will lead
to about 5.5V out to the motor at full current due to the large voltage losses of darlington,
so its a pretty good match for a 6V motor.
