Make a electronic crap-saying manequin

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and I post something because I want to work on electronic this days and had a idea with a friend tonight.

It is to build a electronic model which can do several different things. I am new to electronic, just have a Makey Makey, I work a bit on the code, but I don't know a lot.

So, for this model, I want :

When it is on, It will have to say maybe ten differents audio samples, randomly. And It will read those samples in a frequency of 1 second to 24 hours, randomly. It's a project I do for a friend. The model will be in his house, and will say some shits anytime :) When a sample is read, I want the eyes (two red leds) blinking Also want the arms (optionnal) and especially the jaws moving with the rythm of words And the final touch, the thing needs to have a switch on his balls. When a dude wants to hear a sample, without waiting 1 second or 24 hours, he just has to kick his balls, and the a sample is played.

So I think I need this :

A switch to put it on Power supply (what voltage?) A manequin (I will have one soon :) ) Two leds An Arduino to program all that stuff A speaker (will put it directy in the mouth, I think) Two switch (one to put the thing on and off, another for the balls kicking) Some pieces to make the jaws and arms move ????? Don't see what kind of piece of electronic or mecanic I can use... Someboy has an idea?

Maybe it is a bit difficult to begin with, what do you think?

The Arduino does a lousy job of "speaking". You would be better off with a wav shield that can play wav files that you have recorded.

The rest of the stuff is easy.

How to make the jaws move depends on how the dummy is constructed. We haven't a clue about that.

And will it be capable of sending a message to the jaws and arms for moving, or do I will need another board to do this?

well, sort of ..... you think random, but computers do not do random. consider that you look at the time . . . NOW... what was the last 2 digits ? or 3 digits ? say it was 193 then, you use that as your 'random' go to your program section for 193, run the motor control section and play cut 193 on your wav shield. that way, your motor moves as the prescribed rates. you could have an audio processor that blinks lights at the same frequency and changes colors based on the tones. since your friend has some desire to use foot controls and not some remote, you could change settings for things like more frequently, or less, or only when the lights are on, or some random time after the lights come on, or off. getting anything resembles facial expressions will require a LOT of work. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=88f_1314665604

But, as I say, I am new to electronic, and I don't get the digit example for the moment... :)

For the jaws, I don't expect to achieve something crazy like the humanoid vid you posted, but something much more simple like this :

Just thinking buying two little parts, to put on both sides of the jaw, but for the moment I didn't find what kind of piece it can be... This will be much more easier, but I'm maybe wrong... ?

Yes that is what my translator basically was only I built it myself instead of buying a shield.

Yes all you have to do is to command it in software so a random number at a random time will be fine.

Yes, if you play the sound asynchronously you get control back during the sound. That is how the LED animation works. It samples the envelope of the sound and displays a mouth who's size is proportional to the sound level while the sound is playing.

since your randomity is excessively random, minutes, hours, days.... and I assume you do not want it to go off in the wee hours of the morning, or while at work. you could possibly go weeks without hearing it go off. you could wait till there was movement or the lights came on or some such, and then have a timer pick a random number that would represent a time. at that time, it could mouth off.
