Make music LED flasher continue until reset?

Hello,

Seems like a simple enough thing. I've got a PC that plays a sound when an alarm triggers and I'm trying to give my security team a visual indicator of when this happens (warehouse, lots of noise, can't always hear the chime). So I found this neat LED flasher on instructables:

Unfortunately, the local Fry's staff is a bit incompetent and doesn't know the difference between an LED, ATTiny75, or a 555 timer... So here I am. I can't find a TIP31 transistor equivalent from Fry's, but I figure PNP transistor should work. I'd rather use an ATTiny85, but alas, Frys doesn't sell those either.

Can anyone recommend how to expand this circuit to keep flashing until someone presses a button?

Bad news Steve, that's not an LED flasher. It only flashes because of the music beat. Without that, no flashing.

Well, I'm not surprised, I never heard of ATtiny75 either. But I know what you mean. We don't have Frys in the UK. But we do have Maplin.

Tip31 is NPN, not PNP I think. But, again, I believe your point is that there are many alternatives. And you can buy all that stuff on eBay.

Yes, but you must tell a little more. How will you trigger these lights?

Tip31 is NPN, not PNP I think

You are right it is an NPN.
