Making a rookie relay module mistake?

I can't read you symbology for your connection to the relay. What I need to know is DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE TERMS
NORMALLY OPEN
and
NORMALLY CLOSED ?
Assuming that ONE of the wires from the motor is connected to the COMMON of the relay , WHICH one of the above two terminals is the OTHER wire from the motor connected to ? You schematic makes it look like you connected it to the NORMALLY CLOSED instead of the NORMALLY OPEN terminal.

When I plug in the 12v the motor turns on, when I uploaded the code to arduino the light pulses on the relay module but the motor remains on and doesn't turn off or pulse as the code dictates it should. I am sure I am missing something stupid, any ideas?

Look at this website photo

Click on the left hand photo and look at the zoomed image. Do you see the little green jumper connecting COM & GND ?
Do you know what that means ?
