Making z axis function as second y axis

I have a laser engraver with no need for the z-axis, but my board only has one y-axis and I have 2 steppers for the y axis. Is there a way to program it so the Y-axis is Y1 and the Z-axis becomes Y2?

On the one hand, I could guess "yes", but on the other hand I could guess "no".

You need to provide a schematic of what you do have.
What firmware are you using (grbl, Marlin, ...)?

I'm using a Camxtool v3.5 with GRBL 1.1

@usmcritchey, your topic has been moved to a more suitable location on the forum. Installation and Troubleshooting is not for problems with (nor for advise on) your project  See About the Installation & Troubleshooting category.

It appears that forum seriously needs to be meaningfully re-named. People are clearly not inclined to read the About the Installation & Troubleshooting category description any more than how to use this forum.

I suggest "Installing/ Troubleshooting the Arduino IDE", because according to the "about", that is what is is intended to be, but it needs to be up front. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
