male/female header pins for 8x2 LCD

I have this display,

and I am mounting it on my custom PCB with 3/4" standoffs. I need the LCD to be removable, but the project is for a long term application. So I'm trying to find some kind of male/female pins/header that will last a few years without having corrosion/contact issues. Something gold plated should suffice. The 3/4" part is what's my problem. The pair (male pins, and female header) needs to work with a distance of 3/4" between the boards. I asked digi key, where I'm placing my order, but they said they didn't have any pins that long. ...but the pins don't have to be that long, if you've got the female header in there, too. I've searched and searched, but can't come up with a suitable answer.

What's wrong with regular male and female headers? Mine only measure 5/8" when put together. Might even have to shim one or both sides away from the board with an old piece of stripboard to make them meet fully.

Could you stack another header between the ones you would normally use?
