Matrix in Arduino

Hello everyone,

I'm making a bike indicator using an 8x8 matrix and Arduino UNO, but the code has declared an error and i'm confused as to why. Would anyone know why this is occurring?

void setup() {
Serial.begin(9600);
Serial.println("16x16 LED Matrix Test");
pinMode(buttonLED1, OUTPUT);
pinMode(buttonLED2, OUTPUT);
pinMode(buttonPin1, INPUT_PULLUP);
pinMode(buttonPin2, INPUT_PULLUP);

matrix; matrix.begin (0x71, 0x70); // pass in the addresses
matrix.setBrightness(3);
blinkyOff();
}

Thank you,
Aimee

Always post the error messages. You can copy them from the Arduino IDE. Also, post links to any devices you have. All this and much more is discussed in the "How to use the forum" post. It would be a good idea to have a look at that!

These statements require you to have included the appropriate library, and instanced it with the name "matrix":

    matrix.begin (0x71, 0x70);  // pass in the addresses
    matrix.setBrightness(3);

Where did you get this code, or perhaps better, what is the basis for this code?

Would anyone know why this is occurring?

Why did you only post a part of your code ?
I assume that the error comes from somewhere in setup()
As a wild guess it involves "no such file or directory" but until you post your complete program (using code tags when you do) and the full error message then no constructive help is possible

This line

 matrix; matrix.begin (0x71, 0x70);  // pass in the addresses

looks wrong, but we have no idea which library, if any, you are using
