Does anybody have some hands on experience running a stepper motor with the Arduino? Specifically I need to know how fast people have been able to turn steppers with the arduino. I understand Steppers are not designed for speed - but an idea of what people are actually getting would be really helpful. Thanks all,

The speed of a stepping motor is a function of the motor itself not a function of the controller. To get more speed out of a motor you can up the voltage (within the limits of the coils) or ramp up to the speed. Also the more load the motor is under the slower will be the maximum speed.
