MAX3323 Chip and RS232 Output

Is it possible to connect several buttons to the Duemilanove and program it so that when a different button is pressed different text is sent to the MAX3323 chip and out to hyperterminal?

Another question: (probably a newb question)
How many input and outputs are there?

Also...
Is there a way to have an LCD hooked up that dispays the text going to the MAX3323 chip? Just wondering if its possible.

There are 14 digital pins that can be programmed to be input or output pins and there are 6 analog input pins. The analog pins can also be programmed to be digital pins, so 20 pins in all.

All the the things you asked about are easily programmed in an Arduino.
