Can AT commands be used outside of setup?

We are attempting to read the current broadcasting power and be able to adjust it in real time using AT Command: ATPL

Does anyone know if this can be a command inside the loop?

Is this only for diagnostic purposes?

Does anyone know how to check what broadcast power the XBee is using

You can send AT commands anytime. You just need to send "+++" first.
There is a timeout after sending "+++". After the timeout the XBee will go
back to transparent mode.
