Measuring current sensor

Hello, I have an H-bridge DC motor controller board using mosfets. It's custom made. I want to measure the amps (<5A) of a high power torque actuator. What kind of sensor can I use in order to work bidirectional? Most sensors I found (Adafruit, Sparkfun) must be connected on high or low side of the motor. As I understand it's for one way only. My use case scenario is like a car's window. I found a module called ACS712. Will it work with my case?

Thank's.

What happens when you tried it?

The Hall effect current sensors like the ACS71x and ACS75x are fully isolated from the circuit they measure as they actually measure magnetic field caused by a current.

These chips have several versions for different currents, and most are bidirectional IIRC. The datasheet is the place to check these things.

Well I just found a video explaining how to use the ACS712. It needs a bit tweaking and calibration but other than that it seems to do the job.
