measuring TLC5940 heat

Hi all,
I'm using a TLC5940 (and Arduino NANO), for mastering in pwm 4 strips RGB led 12 volts.
It works.

Because I'm debugging the circuit, I would like to check the temperature
of TLC5940. Can you suggest which external device I can use?
The only device I have till now is a common Voltmeter.
thanks a lot,
Valerio

Ops! I realised just now that my voltmeter has a temperature probe too!
Never used!

A good rule of thumb is literally your thumb. If you can't stand to hold your thumb on the IC then it is too hot.

IR gun thermometers are perfect for this - and cheap these days:

(Though I would avoid something quite that cheap, personally!)
