HI All,
My house has a beautiful mechanical door bell system. It has a traditional pulley system from a brass pull handle to a servants bell elsewhere in the house. Works perfectly...
However, we have a summer house in the garden which is 60 meters ish from the main house and it is impossible to hear the bell. We don't have a house keeper to answer for us and the kids normally are oblivious to anything going on around them, so can't rely on that either.......
So I was wondering if I could deploy any kind of Arduino system that could help me out. The summer house is connected to the main house by ethernet and I get 800Mbps down there no problems.
My initial thought was some kind of detection system that monitors a part of the bell cable system for movement and then transmits to a second Arduino in the summer house which would then play a notification sound. This sounds good, but the only power along its route is the lighting circuit which is a pain.
So then I wondered if I could place an Arduino in the kitchen/scullery area where the servants bell is. I wonder if it is possible for attach a microphone close to the bell and get the arduino to either stream audio to the summer house, or detect the bell sound and send instructions to the summer house to play a sound.
Has anyone got any tips/ideas on what might be the best approach to this project?
