Mega 2560, Blink Sketch, TX/RX Blink fast then stop..???

Hi Folks. I'm new to the forum and already having a problem.

I just got a Mega 2560. I have it hooked to a new ASUS G74 laptop with an I7 processor running Win7 64bit.

I hooked up the board to the computer with a USB cable. It detected the hardware and I installed the drivers successfully. I then opened the Arduino software, set the com port to COM3 and selected the Mega 2560 model from the board menu.

The green ON LED is on and the orange L LED, right above TX/RX is flashing one second on, one second off.

I hit upload, the sketch uploades successfully and the the TX/RX LEDs flash VERY quickly for about half a second and then stop. Definitely not the 1 second on, one second off it is supposed to do.

What is wrong? I don't think I've made a mistake but I'm not sure....

Thanks

My Bad... apparently "L" is the LED that is supposed to flash. I didn't know the blink program was preinstalled and there is no mention of the "L" LED in the getting started guide.

Is there a decent layout diagram for this thing? There are poor schematics and that is about it. All I want is a digram with descriptions of the components and what they do...
