My mega 2560 is being used on my 3d printer and worked fine then my USB port stopped being able to connect to the Mega for control or uploading. I could still use my LCD controls and run my printer off the SD card. After a lot of reading I tried everything I could think of to get the Mega to talk with my computer again. New Drivers, New cords, different computer, bought an Uno to upload a new bootloader. Now that I have uploaded the bootloader the software on there is gone and it's useless to me. Currently it turns on and LD1 blinks but I cannot get it to respond to the serial loopback test.
Any ideas on something else to try? My guess is the USB chip somehow is screwed but it is still recognized on the computer as the right device etc.
I hate not being able to figure these things out. Would it be possible to use a programmer and keep this as a spare or for another project that doesn't connect to a computer (I would have to buy a programmer, unless I can use the Uno. I think as an ISP it only does bootloaders from what I read).
Thanks for any help!
