The price has dipped a bit, makes sense.
If I had it on my bench I'd take the meter to it and map out the pins that the ESP8266 is connected to.
Then I'd see how the overlap with the mega.
You'll need logic level conversion for the serial connection between the two chips, unless it's integrated which is entirely possible.
