i got an adafriut metro mini v2 yesterday and was using it until windows gave me an alert saying "usb surge protection" or smt along those lines it then dropped the board which continued to get power but had dropped all communications and ide said smt along the lines of "COM9 not connected' (com9 was the port i was using" the tx light and power light are still on but the rx light isn't. i have tried switching ports and resetting both my computer and the board . have i freid my board?
What exactly where you doing with the board when you got the alert? Was the board sitting on a conductive surface? Did you have anything hooked up to it? If so, what exactly ? And if you did have something hooked up, you'll have to show us a schematic of how it was hooked up before we can even begin to make intelligent guesses about what might have happened and if it can be fixed.

sorry yes it was not set on a conductive surface and was connected just to an led for a test instead of an led strip i had it all on a breadboard and was on a wood table. the led had a proper resistor in front of it and i was using a 10k ohm resistor for the board just as in the image
