I have finally decided to move to the new IDE 1.8.x after using the 1.0.x for ...years now.
Generally I am always hesitant to update to new versions of software especially when it comes to major upgrades.
The first thing I noticed is that none of my sketches compiles any more under the new IDE for various reasons that I am now trying to troubleshoot
In addition is some cases when compilation is successful the sketch behavior is not the same as before!
Obviously the compiler has been changed as well since the 1.0x version. I wish the option was available for compilation to take place as if it still was IDE 1.0.x.
The new IDE has also a completely new philosophy in handling libraries and boards and I am still struggling with it.
The Arduino Micro board is missing from the board options although Leonardo is there.
I also need to find out how to add Mighty Mini 1284p, Optiboot that I was using with IDE 1.06

Due to a legal dispute it is now called Arduino/Genuino Micro

The installation instructions are here:
That hardware package will work fine but the project has been abandoned so there will be no further development or bug fixes. Luckily we now have a much better hardware package for the ATmega1284P and similar parts to replace it:
