There are no other connections on either board.
If this means the shield is plugged into the Mega with those pins jumpered, that should do.
If this means ONLY those pins are connected, and you have not connected digital pin 8 to digital pin 8, then it won't work. Don't connect pin 8 to pin 53. Both will be outputs and they will fight. There will not really be a winner, but eventually one will lose.
