Micro Solenoids Foce and Overheating?

I'm working on short of Braille display, but instead of the normal "binary" on and off, I want to be able to change the height of each of the "rods" in the display.

Okay, so your solenoid just needs the armature to just extend and retract.

Fully in or out.
OR
Be able to control the degree of armature position?
