In regard to this module (#27), having the jumper and the "AC" optocoupler makes it notionally convenient to have it either HIGH or LOW level activated - though that is basically quite irrelevant to control from a microcontroller which you simply code to suit - never a problem. But as such it makes no use of the opto-isolation.
